Denny Morouse
Biography
Denny Morouse began playing in and around Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, and soon gravitated to New York. He really learned the business in the 1960’s driving a cab by day and playing the New York clubs by night.
Through fate, one of his cab fares was a musician in Stevie Wonder’s band. This led to an audition for Denny. Wonder loved Denny, hired him, and Denny spent three and a half years traveling the world with Stevie Wonder.
Denny has also played and/or recorded with Carly Simon, Carol King, Art Blakey and the Jazz Messengers, Etta James, Astrid Gilberto, , John Lennon, Aerosmith, Ben E King, Buddy Miles, Diana Ross, and Michael Jackson, among others.
He taught music and performed for a number of years in the Virgin Islands.
He came to Tulsa after an extended stay in Hawaii, where he had gone after witnessing the Twin Towers fall from 60 yards away on 9/11. Using the lush greenery of Hawaii and the blue of the sea, he became reinvigorated toward making new music.
Denny, like music itself, transcends all ages. He’s versatile in R&B, pop, island music and virtually all flavors of Jazz.
